Digital Compost Heap
Interactive browser-based artwork
Digital Compost Heap invites participants to upload old PNG and JPEG images into a virtual environment where digital worms decompose them. Published under Kuhn’s virtualgmk account and developed using Unity, the work translates the familiar process of composting into an interaction with digital images.
The ecological metaphor is central to the experience: an image becomes material for simulated organisms rather than remaining a fixed object for viewing. The work can be read as a playful exploration of digital waste and transformation, bringing the language of decomposition into the management of accumulated image files. Its project page contains the browser-based work and embedded video documentation.
