Guru: AI-powered music learning

Guru is developing an AI-powered music-learning platform that uses audio and video analysis to support guitar practice. Through a smartphone or computer, it analyses a learner’s playing and is designed to provide real-time, personalised feedback on pitch, timing and fingering. Combining machine learning with human-centred design, Guru aims to make music education more accessible, helping learners develop their technique, build confidence and practise independently. 

Dr Chris Rhodes is Guru’s co-founder and CEO, leading its product vision. A composer-technologist and Lecturer at University College London, he brings together expertise in interactive music, artificial intelligence, human–computer interaction and extended reality. His role connects these research interests with the development of intelligent, expressive tools that support how people learn and engage with music.
