New School of the Anthropocene

Experimental education and cultural initiative, founder and convenor

Michael Hrebeniak founded the New School of the Anthropocene as an experimental arts-and-humanities education project. Operating since 2022, it brings critical inquiry and creative practice together around environmental change, social relationships and the connections between human and more-than-human life. This is an ongoing educational and cultural initiative rather than a standalone artwork.

Its programme combines lecture-seminars, creative classes and supervised research projects, with teaching based at the Art Workers’ Guild in Bloomsbury and available online. The school uses a pay-what-you-can-afford model and offers a postgraduate-level Diploma in Environmental Humanities. Its wider activities include exhibitions, concerts, a publishing initiative and I Want to Eat the Earth, a sonic almanac broadcast on Resonance FM. These activities extend its educational work into public artistic and cultural production.
