Vectors, Matrices and Magic
Vectors, Matrices and Magic
Vectors, Matrices and Magic is a forthcoming book to be published by No Starch Press, exploring the mathematics behind game development through practical problems and intuitive explanations. Drawing on experience of making games since the mid-1990s, it addresses the gap between mathematics taught at school and the challenges encountered when bringing imagined games to life.
The book grew from a desire to offer the explanations that were missing during this learning process: not simply how to perform a calculation, but how mathematical ideas relate to the things a game developer wants to create. By approaching mathematics through its practical application, it connects abstract concepts with creative problem-solving. Its aim is to make mathematics feel accessible and purposeful, a tool for developing ideas, experimenting and making games, rather than an obstacle to overcome.
