Feature film written and directed by Justin Hardy, produced by Alison Palmer and Chris Nunn.

Robin Keane was the cinematographer (Director of Photography) for Wrath of the Gods (2026), directed by Justin Hardy.

Wrath of the Gods is a folk-horror film set on Hel, an isolated North Sea island between Scotland and Scandinavia. It follows Anna, a grieving widow who returns to bury her husband and encounters a community that regards her as a source of misfortune. When local girls begin to disappear, her husband’s death and her own traumatic memories become entangled with the island’s secrets. Protecting her daughter requires her to confront a past that the community has failed to resolve.

The narrative brings supernatural uncertainty into contact with grief, misogyny and family trauma. Anna’s isolation is both geographical and social: the island’s hostility leaves her vulnerable while disturbing memories force her to question what lies behind the disappearances. The threat develops through the relationship between communal beliefs, concealed violence and the possibility of forces beyond human explanation.

The project emerged from Justin and Dominic Hardy’s investigation of their father Robin’s archive, where they encountered plans for a third film following The Wicker Man and The Wicker Tree. Rather than simply reconstructing that unrealised project, the brothers developed a different story connected to its folk-horror legacy. The film therefore extends the family’s engagement with The Wicker Man through fiction, following the archival and autobiographical investigation of Children of the Wicker Man.

Shot entirely on location in Shetland, the production involved local participants as cast and crew and incorporated Shetland dialect. This community-based approach was supported by a university–independent production model, connecting professional filmmaking with opportunities for emerging practitioners. Wrath of the Gods premiered at London’s FrightFest on 28 August 2026
