2012 Corvette Grand Sport
Annotated musical score, performance and video; performed by Peter Zummo
2012 Corvette Grand Sport explores how meaning changes when information passes between different forms of representation. For the project, Jonas Pequeno used software to translate the audio of a YouTube video about installing sound-insulation materials in a car into musical notation. The resulting arrangements were then performed by musician and composer Peter Zummo, turning an instructional recording into the basis for a musical encounter.
The work moves through a sequence of translations: recorded sound becomes written notation, which is subsequently interpreted through performance. Each stage introduces a different way of organising and understanding the source material. An everyday video, originally intended to communicate practical information, becomes a score capable of producing unexpected moments of musicality. The project therefore treats translation not simply as a means of preserving an original message, but as a process through which new meanings can emerge.
This sequence can be read as an experiment in the relationship between computational processing and human interpretation. The software-generated notation does not conclude the work; it becomes material for another person to interpret and perform. Presented by Fourth Sounds, the project comprises annotated sheet music, a performance by Zummo and an eight-minute, nine-second video, bringing together Pequeno’s interests in sound, language and the transformation of information.
