Luciano Piazza - (he/him) - Lecturer in Documentary Film

Argentine-born artist researcher and educator that works at the intersection of filmmaking, curation and writing. He studied Cultural Studies at the University of Buenos Aires, Creative Writing at New York University and Film and Video at CalArts. He was the co-editor and co-curator (with Jesse Lerner) of Ism, Ism, Ism: Experimental Cinema in Latin America, published by the University of California Press, Los Angeles Filmforum’s contribution to Getty's exhibition, Pacific Standard Time LA/LA. His films and curatorial work have been presented in international film festivals, museums and venues such as Museo Reina Sofia, Anthology Film Archives, Arsenal Berlin, Viennale, BAFICI, Oberhausen, Cineteca Nacional de México, REDCAT, Echo Park Film Center, Hammer Museum, among others.

Teaching

I teach documentary filmmaking, experimental film techniques and practice-based research methodologies. My teaching experience has been shaped by different institutions and diverse cultures. I strive to create a learning environment where students can engage with their surroundings and everyday experiences. As a bilingual artist and mentor, I aim to help students appreciate the advantages of embracing a multilingual and multicultural perspective. I encourage students to view the course material as flexible, enabling them to connect with and contribute to a community outside of academia.

Keywords: learning by making, expanding the intersection of theory and practice, creative voice development, experimental film techniques, rhythmical structures
