
Fawzia Mahmood
Lecturer in Film Producing
She is a film, television and moving-image producer living and working in London. Her work has screened at festivals, on broadcast television, and in galleries, educational institutions and community spaces.
She developed her producing experience working across busy film slates, including projects by Lenny Abrahamson, Icíar Bollaín, Mike Leigh, Idris Elba, Stanley Tucci and Michael Haneke, alongside script editing and consultancy work for companies including DJ Films and FilmWave.
Her practice involves close collaboration with writers, directors and production partners at all stages of development and production, working across genres, platforms, budget levels and international contexts.
Her publicly funded producing and editorial work releasing across 2025–26 includes an upcoming feature documentary, short fiction film, television drama series and fiction feature.
She is an alumna of Rotterdam Lab, Berlinale Talents, Locarno Match Me, Edinburgh Film Festival Talent Lab, and Sheffield Doc/Fest Future Producer. She is also a member of BAFTA and the Producers’ Alliance for Cinema and Television UK, and is a voter for the British Independent Film Awards.
Alongside her professional production work, she has taught film and media practice and production at UCL, the London Film School, and through Whitechapel Gallery’s education programme.
She holds an MA in Producing from the National Film and Television School, a BA in Economics from Brown University, and an MPhil in South Asian Studies from the University of Cambridge, where her research focused on colonial history, visual anthropology and cinema.
