Gyorgy Beck

György Beck, HCA

Lecture in Film production and lead of the film strand at BA Media.

Award winning artist, filmmaker and educator, working and exhibiting internationally. Accredited member of the Hungarian Cinematographers’ Association (HCA) and the European Federation of Cinematographers (IMAGO).

He graduated from the University of Theater and Film Arts (Budapest, Hungary) and also holds an MS degree from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio, USA).

Alongside working for decades in the film industry, Beck is an artist working not only in diverse genres of the visual arts, but his multifaceted talents have led him to participate in many cultural activities.

His approach to his art – and teaching – focuses on a quest of finding different means to transcend the boundaries of the traditional and conventional modus operandi. Whether it is creating fine art for exhibition, or telling a story on screen, he constantly searches for the essence of art within (or behind) the pieces he has been working on. This has driven him beyond the traditional forms of art- and film-making to different crossroads of art.

His works have been exhibited/screened extensively throughout Europe and the US, including Budapest, Berlin, Ljubljana, New York, Los Angeles, and are found in private and public collections.

As an educator, beyond his full time positions (The University of Texas at Arlington, Middlesex University, Aberystwyth University), he has given lectures/workshops at such prestigious institutions as the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, the California Institute of the Arts and the Hungarian Academy of Film and Theater.
